Short answer: yes, Vestiaire Collective is a legitimate, well-established resale platform for designer fashion. The important detail, and the one most people miss, is that not every order is physically authenticated.

The bit that catches people out: Direct Shipping

Vestiaire offers two routes. On the authenticated route, the seller ships to Vestiaire, an expert physically inspects the item, and it is then forwarded to you. On Direct Shipping, the item goes straight from the seller to you, with no physical check by Vestiaire.

Direct Shipping is generally offered when buyer and seller are in the same country and the item is below a value threshold. It is usually cheaper, because you are not paying the authentication fee, and faster, because the item skips a leg of the journey.

That is a reasonable trade, but you should make it knowingly. Choosing Direct Shipping means choosing to skip authentication. If your main reason for using Vestiaire is confidence that a bag is genuine, paying the authentication fee is the point of the platform, not an upsell to avoid.

The reporting window

With Direct Shipping, you typically have a short window, around 72 hours from delivery, to report that an item is not as described or not genuine. Check it the day it arrives. Photograph it before and during unboxing. A missed window is the most common reason a legitimate complaint fails.

What Vestiaire is genuinely good at

• Physical authentication by people who handle these items daily, when you select it.
• A large, real catalogue of designer resale with established sellers.
• Payment held until the transaction completes, so the platform can act.

What it does not cover
