Terms of service.

The rules that govern your use of Chainr. Plain-English summaries are in each section. The full terms apply.

1. Accepting these terms

By creating a Chainr account or registering a sale, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Chainr. You must be at least 18 and legally able to enter a contract.

2. What Chainr is, and isn’t

Chainr is a record-keeping and identity-verification service for private sales. We verify the identities of both parties and create a timestamped certificate of the handover.

Chainr is not a marketplace, an escrow service, a payment processor for the sale itself, or a legal authority. We do not take possession of items or funds, and we do not guarantee an item’s condition, authenticity, or ownership history.

3. Fees

Each party pays a £2.50 registration fee, charged at the point of verification via Stripe. The fee is non-refundable once verification has run (including where a sale does not ultimately proceed) because the verification and record have already been performed.

4. Your responsibilities

You agree to provide accurate information, to complete verification honestly as yourself, and to only register genuine, lawful private sales. You must not use Chainr to facilitate the sale of stolen, prohibited, or counterfeit goods.

Chainr is for items you own and are free to sell. It isn’t the place for anything illegal, regulated, or otherwise prohibited, for example weapons, drugs, stolen goods, other regulated goods, live animals, or adult material. Chainr is for legal private sales only.

The 6-digit handover code must only be shared in person at the point of exchange. Confirming receipt is your acknowledgement that the item physically changed hands.

5. Verification & certificates

Verification is provided by Stripe Identity and Stripe AVS. A certificate confirms the verified identities of the parties and that a handover was confirmed at the stated time. It is evidence, not a warranty of the transaction or the item.

Minimum age: You must be at least 18 years old to use Chainr. We verify age from your government ID during identity verification; accounts that do not meet this requirement cannot be verified.

Where the name on a payment card differs from the verified identity, the other party may decline to proceed. Verification fees are non-refundable once verification is complete, including where the other party declines on the basis of a name mismatch.

6. Disputes & evidence

Records are permanent. A registered sale is never deleted, so the certificate and the record behind it stay intact as evidence.

Chainr does not adjudicate disputes between the parties or decide who is right. There is no in-app way to report another person, file a dispute, request an evidence pack, or submit a police reference number, and none of those things would unlock anything if they existed, because the safeguard is who receives the evidence: police only, not anything a party provides.

If something has gone wrong, report it to the police and obtain a crime reference from them. Evidence is police-initiated: when genuine law enforcement contacts Chainr directly about a real investigation (through an official channel, or via a court's disclosure process), we prepare and release the evidence pack to them. That direct, verified contact is what unlocks disclosure, not a reference number entered on a form.

The full evidence pack includes the other party's home address and is released only to law enforcement, never to a party, even one claiming to hold a police reference. Any disclosure of an address to a non-police party happens solely through a court's own process, never by Chainr handing it over. Law enforcement can reach us at evidence@chainr.app. This is set out further in our Privacy policy.

7. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Chainr is not liable for the outcome of the underlying sale, the conduct of the other party, or any loss arising from the transaction itself. Our total liability is limited to the fees you paid us. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

8. Accounts & termination

You can close your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms or misuse the service. On closure your personal profile is removed; sale records are anonymised and retained as part of the verified chain of ownership.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Where you use Chainr from another country, any mandatory local consumer protections continue to apply. We may update these terms; we’ll post the date of the latest revision at the top of this page.

Availability: Chainr is not available where prohibited by sanctions or where identity verification is not supported. Eligibility is determined by our payment and identity-verification providers at the point of use.

This is a plain-language scaffold to be reviewed and finalised by your legal counsel before launch. Questions? Email hello@chainr.app. See also our Privacy & data policy.
